I seek through my practice to have a sincere contemplation on the self and the other through creating my own world and setting plays within it. The elements at play are symbols of technology, mysticism, and nature, and they war and brush with each other just as we might. Having a humanoid interpretation of these ideas creates images that have often been described as science fictional. The affected figures are placed on a landscape relatively empty otherwise, and being among this normalcy with their hazy movements, jumbled wires, and biting teeth they appear like ghosts or the otherworldly. I attribute reading a darker vision of the future within what is seen to both the timeless quality of the universal themes that have long been in humanity’s subconscious and our own founded fear in the acceleration of technology. I create large scale oil paintings as the medium and scale offer an opportunity for the scene to become all the more theatrical and immersive. Its a trick that makes a magician out of the painter as a nonexistent depth and light are pushed as far as they can go with a subtractive technique, and these fictions can become all the more real, thus they may be explored to the fullest extent.
